Jordan Butcher is a creative director, art director, and graphic designer

b. 1985, West Virginia
Living and working in New York City

What follows is the linear version of a winding journey. Jordan started working in design as a teenager making artwork for local hardcore bands. In 2004, he joined Squad Studios in Seattle, where he cut his professional teeth on projects for the music industry, leading him to go in-house for a record label under the EMI umbrella. After a few fits and starts with the freelance life, he joined the art department at a heritage apparel brand, learning the ins and outs of the clothing business. After spending a few years in the agency system, Jordan stepped out to start Strange Practice in 2015, where he applies his cumulative experiences in design to each project. At this point there are few physical or digital spaces he hasn’t touched. Out of office, Jordan can be found criss-crossing the globe behind the drum kit — or in the much quieter venue of a flowing stream, fly rod in hand.

He is well-read and well-connected and well-opinioned. No matter the task, he applies his deep-rooted Appalachian work ethic with acclaimed results. He's currently 0-2 at the Grammy Awards, but he’ll keep trying.
